Cette phase doit prendre fin au 31 décembre 2020 au plus tôt, mais les pourparlers semblent actuellement en impasse. Dr Sylvie Kerger est docteure en psychologie et enseignante-chercheuse à l’Université du Luxembourg. Elle enseigne au Bachelor en sciences de l’éducation et dans ses travaux de recherche, elle s’intéresse aux stéréotypes de genre dans l’enfance. Depuis leur plus jeune âge, les enfants sont confrontés à de nombreux stéréotypes de genre, notamment dans leur environnement familial, sociétal (par exemple, à travers le marketing genré) et éducatif. C’est notamment dans ce dernier contexte que la Dr Sylvie Kerger mène, ensemble avec la Dr Laurence Brasseur, un projet de recherche qui a été rendu possible grâce au financement du Ministère de l’égalité entre les femmes et les hommes. L’objectif de cette étude est de révéler les représentations du genre dans les manuels scolaires utilisés à l’école fondamentale au Luxembourg. Transmetteurs de valeurs et de connaissances, les manuels scolaires jouent un rôle prépondérant dans la socialisation. Grâce à un état des lieux du contexte luxembourgeois, ce projet permettra d’élaborer un ensemble de recommandations pour les acteurs concernés et fournira des outils qui faciliteront l’application d’un regard critique sur le matériel didactique. Luxembourg camp literature has its literary roots in the literature of prisoners of war and prisoners of war of the First World War. During their Soviet imprisonment from 1943 to 1953, the Luxembourg conscripts continued a tradition of documentarism that did not want to create fictional narrative worlds, but instead focused exclusively on what they had experienced themselves. A large part of the texts left behind is also not literature that was written for a larger audience. They have often been published by the authors themselves. Autobiographies, memoirs and a few volumes of poetry (Faber, Bausch, Schauss) were published, some decades later. A fictional play by the former prisoner of war Joseph Schmit has not been printed to this day. Numerous ego documents, as the research of contemporary history calls them today, have also been preserved - private, handwritten texts of a personal nature. Such material will be the primary focus of this paper. The range of Luxembourgish texts to be examined from the Soviet camp ranges from smuggled notes and letters that released comrades brought to Luxembourg, through diaries, speeches and self-made dictionaries to poems and stories, some of which were in the camp and some immediately after their return Tambov and other Soviet camps emerged. Moments of crisis like the current one sparked by Covid-19, engage social, economic, cultural and political institutions of a society and stress-test their resourcefulness, while individual and collective food supplies become primary concerns. Where does even the wealthiest of EU member States stand when it comes to food sovereignty and specific vulnerabilities, what needs to change and which food policies are needed to facilitate a sustainable food system – both locally and internationally? Combining qualitative, empirical research methods to textual and statistical analysis, as well as transformative research, I focus on key areas of Luxembourg’s food system presenting challenges – specific ones and structural ones intertwined with issues in other countries – and discuss current and planned pathways of optimisation. I will start out with an analysis of agricultural and commercial specificities of a food system with low self-sufficiency rates, linked to meat and dairy specialisations, but also to market accessibility and market structure issues, leading to heavy imports. I will then shed light on pathways currently put into practice by the State, by economic actors, by educational actors and by social movements and coalitions of the willing, advocating ecological, ethical and qualitative production methods. Finally, I will show how the first Food Policy Council at national level that Luxembourg is currently founding is favoring a deliberate shift towards a multi-stakeholder-lead effective food policy. A hands-on demonstration of the Kinora Viewer Replica. This public online event shows the fruits of a recent successful collaboration between the C2DH and the Department of Engineering. Combining historical inquiry with a hands-on and technical approach – involving the latest 3D modelling and desktop manufacturing engineering techniques – a media historian and two engineers joined forces to produce a working replica of a very special object in the history of (early) cinema: the Kinora viewer. This rare motion picture apparatus from the early 1900s is arguably the first motion picture technology that was specifically designed for home use. The Kinora viewer makes use of a flipbook mechanism, in which a series of paper-based unperformated photographs were attached to a wheel. By turning the wheel and looking through the viewer, one could watch the series of photographs in motion. Originally invented by Auguste and Louis Lumière in 1896, the Kinora developed into one of “the most successful of the ‘home movie’ machines” of the early 1900s. In this online event participants will be given a demonstration of both the recently manufactured Kinora viewer replica and the original Kinora viewer (ca.1907), which is part of C2DH’s media archaeological collection. The demonstrations will be combined with presentations highlighting the history of the Kinora as well as the process of making the replica in the Design Engineering Lab of the University of Luxembourg. The event is organized by Dr. Tim van der Heijden (C2DH), Ing. Claude Wolf (Department of Engineering) and Morgane Piet, BSc. (Department of Engineering): an interdisciplinary and hands-on collaboration between the C2DH and the Department of Engineering, University of Luxembourg within the framework of the project “Doing Experimental Media Archaeology: Practice and Theory (DEMA)”. Migration flows of the 21st century lead to increasingly multilingual societies and entail rapidly evolving language practices. In sociolinguistics and education, there has been a growing interest in exploring these language practices. While most translanguaging studies carried out at school attend to the flexible use of two or more named languages, they only marginally acknowledge the pupils’ semiotic repertoires. Meaning making, however, occurs across and beyond languages. In this presentation, I will provide insight into the meaning-making processes of a newly arrived pupil in Luxembourg. As the instruction of French, German and Luxembourgish accounts for more than 40% of all curricular time, it can be difficult for newcomers to access the curriculum if they have to learn two or even three languages. This raises the question if and to what extent pupils draw on their resources to engage with the curriculum. My doctoral research tackles the following question: In what ways, to what extent and for what purposes do four multilingual fourth graders of different backgrounds deploy and develop their semiotic repertoires in interaction with their peers and teachers? To address that question, I visited two primary schools in Luxembourg where I observed, took field notes and video-recorded the pupils’ interactions as well as their use of multilingual and multimodal resources. A selection of recordings was discussed with the focal pupils in stimulated recall interviews. Observations, video-recordings and interviews were transcribed and analyzed with thematic analysis (Braun and Clarke 2013), multimodal interaction analysis (Norris 2004) and sociocultural discourse analysis (Mercer 2004) respectively. This presentation is based on the classroom interactions in one of the investigated schools and foregrounds one of the main findings: the pupils aligned their translanguaging practices to those of their peers. They adapted their language use to the interlocutor, orchestrated their semiotic resources in the same way as their peers and reproduced the teacher’s translanguaging practice. The study highlights the interconnectedness of classroom and individual practices and draws attention to the importance of resources other than linguistic ones in meaning-making processes at school. Wahlkämpfe in der deutschen Kulturgemeinschaft wurden so zu zentralen Momenten der politischen Auseinandersetzung und des Parteienstreits. In dieser Folge von „100 Jahre Ostbelgien“ wollen Andreas Fickers und Christoph Brüll diese Wahlkämpfe auf der Grundlage von Wahldebatten beleuchten, die der BHF/BRF in den Jahren 1974 bis 1999 ausgestrahlt hat. Mit der Zahl der Infizierten in Europa stieg in den letzten Monaten auch die Zahl der Grundrechte, die für eine gewisse Zeit nicht mehr galten. Die in den Verfassungen verbrieften Freiheitsrechte stehen den Schutzmaßnahmen gegenüber, die Leben schützen sollen. Ein solcher Eingriff in die Grundrechte und Grundsätze des Rechtsstaates birgt Gefahren. Wie verhält ein demokratischer Rechtsstaat sich angesichts solcher Krisen angemessen? Wie gelingt die richtige Balance zwischen Freiheitsrechten der Bürgerinnen und Bürger und den Schutzmaßnahmen um die Pandemie einzudämmen? Wie die Situation auf nationaler und europäischer Ebene gehandhabt wurde und in Zukunft werden sollte, wird bei diesem 9. EU-Talk besprochen.In dieser EU-Talkrunde wurden der demokratische Rechtsstaat und die Grundrechte der Bürgerinnen und Bürger in Zeiten von Corona thematisiert.
