The objective of this study was to report clinical details and results of genetic testing for mutations in the epsilon-sarcoglycan (SGCE) gene, the Slit and Trk-like 1 (SLITRK1) gene and for linkage to the DYT15, DYT1, and DRD2 gene loci in a family with autosomal dominant myoclonus-dystonia (M-D) and Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS). Fourteen family members, from three generations, underwent a detailed clinical assessment and donated DNA samples. The SGCE and the SLITRK1 gene were sequenced and investigated by gene dosage analysis in selected family members. Linkage to the SGCE, DYT15, DYT1, DRD2, and SLITRK1 loci was also tested. RESULTS: We included three healthy and 11 affected family members with M-D (n = 3), dystonia alone (n = 2), GTS (n = 1), tics (n = 1) or a combination of these with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) (M-D + OCD: n = 2; dystonia+OCD: n = 1; M-D + GTS + OCD: n = 1). There was no linkage to the SGCE, DYT15, DYT1 or DRD2 loci. No changes were found in the SLITRK1 gene. The presence of both M-D and GTS in one family, in which all known M-D loci and a recently discovered GTS locus were excluded, suggests a novel susceptibility gene for both M-D and GTS. [less ▲]

The purpose of this contribution is to open what appeared at first sight to be a small dossier, devoted to the heritage held in the county of Hainaut for several decades at the beginning of the 14th century between 1304 and 1343, and even afterwards, by the counts of the Luxembourg dynasty (Henry VII and his son John the Blind, King of Bohemia), of which I have presented the main items and the interest that their study (and publication) could bring. This file is interesting in more than one way: It is- on the Luxembourg side at least, little known - even if important documents have been published and available for a long time - these 'outlying' possessions have not been much taken into consideration by researchers working on the territorialisation of the principality or on the 'finances' of John of Bohemia. It also concerns a period during which documentary writing developed in the management of the possessions of the principalities of the Low Countries - including, of course, Hainaut (in union with Zealand Holland), which has been very well studied by Valeria Van Camp. In Luxembourg, a first cartulary, currently called liber foeodorum, was drawn up in 1308-1309, and subsequently completed; a second in 1343, and also a censary (or Urbar) noting the revenues of the various components of the possessions of the Luxembourgs by provostship, land, and castellany in the years 1306-1317, subsequently completed in the years 1322-1327. This file raises questions about the practical management of such possessions, which were quite remote, beyond the administrative organisation of the county. [less ▲]

This article presents the text of a revised version of a lecture given in May 2022 as part of the Cercle Archéologique de Mons lecture series and gives a detailed presentation of the corpus documenting the heritage held in the county of Hainaut for several decades at the beginning of the 14th century between 1304 and 1343, and even afterwards, by the counts of the Luxembourg dynasty (Henry VII and his son John, known as the Blind Man, King of Bohemia). This file is interesting in more ways than one: It is- on the Luxembourg side at least, little known - even though important documents have been published and available for a long time - these 'outlying' possessions have received little attention from researchers working on the territorialisation of the principality or on the 'finances' of John of Bohemia. This file raises questions about the practical management of such possessions, which were quite remote, beyond the administrative organisation of the county. It also provides interesting insights into the question of cultural transfers in the area of princely administration between the county of Hainaut and that of Luxembourg. [less ▲]
