[more ▼] Physical activity plays an important role in children’s growth and development. Understanding why a child is active or inactive is, therefore, essential for prevention of and intervention in childhood obesity. This narrative review provides an up-to-date summary of the literature pertaining to biological, psychosocial and environmental factors affecting young children’s acquisition of physical activity behaviour. Physical activity-related traits are characterized by familial aggregation and influenced by genetic factors. Nevertheless, the genetic contribution to physical activity shows increasing expression with age, supporting the need for interventions in early childhood. In addition to genetic factors, a range of psychosocial and environmental factors that are associated with physical activity in children have been identified: boys are more active than girls, and children with active parents tend to be more active. Overall physical activity support provided by parents predicts children’s organized physical activity. Perceived road safety and threat posed by strangers are major causes of parental anxiety in relation to their children’s safety in the neighbourhood. Programmes designed to increase physical activity should promote the importance of physical activity to parents. In addition, improving perceived safety may help to ease parental restriction of their children's active transport and physical activity. [more ▼] In spite of their fondamental geopolitical differences and their contrasting trajectories through the history, modern-day Romania and Luxembourg have always enjoyed a unique relationship, which started in the 12th century, when a number of Siebenbürger Sachsen could migrate eastwards (in Transylvania). A second migratory movement occurs in the 18th century when inhabitants of the then Duchy of Luxembourg set off towards the Danubian plains (the Banat of Timisoara), establishing themselves as settlers on this land previously conquered by the Habsburgs from the Turks and today part of Romania. Bilateral diplomatic relations between Romania and Luxembourg were first established on 8 December 1920, and in 1966 their respective diplomatic representations were elevated to the rank of embassy. After the fall of the communist regime, the democratic government of Romania appointed, in 1990, its first resident ambassador in Luxembourg. During its gradual integration into the Euro-Atlantic structures (EU, NATO), Romania and Luxembourg increase their synergies in a bi- and multilateral international framework. Moreover, on 5 April 2005, Romania (and Bulgaria) signed the EU accession treaty in Luxembourg, under the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Taking into account these elements, and also the fact that Romania and Luxembourg (both, independent and sovereign nation-states) are subjects of the international relations and diplomacy process, this lecture aims to present a insightful foray into a long-centuries common history, by highlighting moments, events and key-figures on both-sides, by means of several undisclosed and unpublished archival documents provided courtesy of the Diplomatic Archives of Romania. (A brief presentation of definitions, concepts and notions specific to the international relations and diplomacy field will ensure a better understanding of the subject). [more ▼] Previous studies have shown that romantic partners and siblings are important attachment figures. This study compares the attachment to the romantic partner with the attachment to the sibling as a function of the participant’s sibling type among monozygotic (MZ) twins, dizygotic (DZ) twins, and non-twin (NT) siblings. The results show that MZ twins prefer their sibling to their romantic partner whereas DZ twins are equally attached to their sibling and romantic partner. In contrast, NT siblings are more attached to their romantic partner compared to their sibling. These results indicate that genetic relatedness has profound impact on a person’s attachment hierarchy and the relative rank of the romantic partner and the sibling.
