International space law does not always connect the obligation and rights of States Parties with the ownership of the satellite. However, the transfer of ownership is a relatively frequent phenomenon. The main problem may occur if the satellite is sold in one of the non-launching States. The article analyses various scenarios and suggested solutions. [less ▲]

This study investigates the effect of ownership structure on the use of cash flow in financing corporate investments—the investment-cash flow sensitivity—in a concentrated ownership context. Using a sample of 6797 French listed firms from 2000 to 2013, results show that investment-cash flow sensitivity decreases with the cash-flow rights of the controlling shareholder and increases with the separation of its cash-flow and control rights (excess control rights). Firms are, thus, less likely to use cash flow in investments when the interests of controlling shareholders are aligned with those of minority shareholders. However, they appear to use considerable internal funds for their investments when they have severe agency problems, driven by excess control rights of the controlling shareholders. Overall, our findings help advance the understanding of the role of agency relationship in shaping corporate financial policy. [less ▲]

Human cutaneous mast cells and their experimental model rat peritoneal mast cells, can be stimulated by an IgE-dependent process or by peptides through the direct activation of G proteins. Both activation pathways lead to the increase of cytosolic Ca2+ level. This increase in dependent of the mobilisation of intracellular calcium stores of the endoplasmic reticulum involving the stimulation of IP3-sensitive calcium channels. Mast cells are characterized by the absence of calcium channels in the plasma membrane. Oxatomide has been synthetized as an analog of cinnarizine. However oxatomide is inactive on current calcium channels. In mast cells, oxatomide inhibits the increase of cytosolic calcium elicited during mast cell activation. Consequently mast cell exocytosis is inhibited altogether with the release of newly synthetized mediators. The authors propose several putative targets for oxatomide in mast cells. The therapeutic effect of oxatomide is also related to its property to antagonize the effects of anaphylactic mediators on their selective receptors. [less ▲]

Five- and six-day-old rabbit preimplantation embryos were found to be capable of metabolizing [3H]diethylstilbestrol (DES) in vitro. Based on the analysis of the metabolites formed during a 24-hr incubation period we conclude that these early stage embryos do have active monooxygenase and conjugative activity. The monooxygenase seems to be specific to this early stage of embryonic development. [less ▲]

Oxidative stress is a cardinal feature of the inflammatory process and is involved in various pathologies including atherosclerosis. One of the important mechanisms in which oxidative stress may play a role is activation of matrix metalloproteinases such as MMP-2, which are involved in plaque destabilization. We investigated the mechanisms by which oxidative stress induces MMP-2 activation in cultured human coronary artery smooth muscle cells. Using zymography and Western blot analysis, we showed that oxidized low-density lipoproteins activate MMP-2 through up-regulation of the expression and activation of a membrane-type 1 matrix metalloproteinase (MT1-MMP). A second mechanism of MMP-2 activation involves oxidative radicals generated by the xanthine/xanthine oxidase complex (X/Xo). Research on these two mechanisms of MMP activation could lead to the elaboration of new vascular therapies for the treatment of atheroma based on interruption of a specific oxidative stress pathway.
