Improving the usability and adoption of secure (i.e. end-to-end encrypted) email systems has been a notorious challenge for over two decades. One of the open questions concerns the amount and format of information that should be communicated to users to inform them of the security and privacy properties with respect to different messages or correspondents. Contributing to the ongoing discussion on the usability and effectiveness of security and privacy indicators, particularly in the context of systems targeting non-expert users, this paper sheds light on users' evaluation of traffic light-inspired indicators, as a metaphor to represent different privacy states and guarantees, provided by a new system for email end-to-end encryption called p≡p. Using a mixed-methods approach, based on input gathered from 150 participants in three online studies, we highlight the pros and cons of the traffic light semantic in p≡p's context and beyond, and discuss the potential implications on the perceived security and use of such systems. Flaka Haliti. I see a Face. Do you see a Face. Flaka Haliti, winner of the Henkel Art.Award 2013 takes an analytic approach to society and media in her work, and refers in particular to her own experiences as an interloper between different countries andcultures. The artist, who was born 1982, lives and works in her homecity of Prishtina and also in Munich and Vienna. By contrasting an installation of imitated concrete walls with a photo series of cloud motifs including computer drawn faces, Haliti constructs a spatial scenario that is both menacingly narrow and constricted and that also seems to offer an open a broad perspective. A further work looks at interpersonal relationship between proximity and distance under the condition of the media world, in a video installation about long-distance realtionships in the internet. The exhibition titel "I see a Face. Do you see a Face." is taken from the photo series with cloud motifs and poses a question that is formulated so that it can also be taken as a statement of fact, In this deliberate dissolution of all clear parameters and ascription. It is often said that the entrepreneurs of today are the family businesses of tomorrow. This assertion is supported by findings in a Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (2019-20) Report on ‘Family Entrepreneurship’ which cites that 75% of respondent entrepreneurs across 48 economies indicate that their family was actively involved in either starting or developing a new business . In spite of this, and the fact that it is becoming more popular for family firms to encourage entrepreneurialism within the younger generation, it is often challenging for Next Gens to ‘carve out’ an entrepreneurial identity for themselves. This is even more so the case if the intention is to pursue new ideas that are not central to the core business and which might disturb long-planned succession strategies, or expectations held by senior family members. Making the decision to get on board the entrepreneur(ship) is an important career decision that has huge implications, not only for the Next Gens who are planning this, but also for current members of the family business who might have to adjust their expectations. How does homeownership magnify existing gender disparities in the labor markets of the rich OECD countries? Men and women, and especially mothers and fathers, respond to homeownership differently. Owners work more hours than renters but mothers experience an ownership penalty while fathers solidify their market attachment. Both responses increase the gender gap. As such, governments pursuing dual policy objectives of promoting homeownership and greater gender parity in the labor market will find their policies working at cross-purposes. This paper analyzes the effect of homeownership on labor market attachment and explains why mothers and fathers respond to it in different ways. [less ▲]

Ageing and migration have become key issues in many European countries as a large number of first generation immigrants are approaching retirement age in the next years. Focusing on elder Portuguese immigrants in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the present study had the aim to explore the roles of social and temporal comparisons for future intentions to stay in the receiving country, return to the country of origin or commute between both. Whereas earlier studies have examined the roles of social or cultural links, economic or health aspects, we focused here on the participants’ personal evaluation of their migratory project by asking them to evaluate their current situation compared with the past and with peers. A sample of N = 109 Portuguese first generation immigrants (49.5% female; average age: M = 55.35, SD = 7.42) who had been living in Luxembourg for about M = 30.69 (SD = 8.55) years were interviewed by use of a standardized questionnaire. Analyses showed that about half of participants preferred to stay in Luxembourg, whereas the remainder planned to return to Portugal or to commute. The appraisal of the current (vs. past) situation was significantly more positive for those who planned to stay or commute compared to those who wanted to return after retirement. Interestingly, both those who planned to return and those who wanted to stay engaged more frequently in social or temporal comparisons than those who preferred to commute. Results will be discussed taking into consideration regulatory processes of subjective well-being and different migration experiences. [less ▲]

Progress in the atomic-scale modeling of matter over the past decade has been tremendous. This progress has been brought about by improvements in methods for evaluating interatomic forces that work by either solving the electronic structure problem explicitly, or by computing accurate approximations of the solution and by the development of techniques that use the Born–Oppenheimer (BO) forces to move the atoms on the BO potential energy surface. As a consequence of these developments it is now possible to identify stable or metastable states, to sample configurations consistent with the appropriate thermodynamic ensemble, and to estimate the kinetics of reactions and phase transitions. All too often, however, progress is slowed down by the bottleneck associated with implementing new optimization algorithms and/or sampling techniques into the many existing electronic-structure and empirical-potential codes. To address this problem, we are thus releasing a new version of the i-PI software. This piece of software is an easily extensible framework for implementing advanced atomistic simulation techniques using interatomic potentials and forces calculated by an external driver code. While the original version of the code (Ceriotti et al., 2014) was developed with a focus on path integral molecular dynamics techniques, this second release of i-PI not only includes several new advanced path integral methods, but also offers other classes of algorithms. In other words, i-PI is moving towards becoming a universal force engine that is both modular and tightly coupled to the driver codes that evaluate the potential energy surface and its derivatives.
