[more ▼] Digital technologies may impact the practices of historians at every stages of their research, from retrieving archives, building a corpus to writing and editing. Digital tools have influenced spaces for scientific dialogue and free flow of ideas within the historians' community. As such, Digital Humanities are challenging the shaping of history, but they could also become an object of history. Therefore, we will analyse such an hybridization that may enrich our field of study. Ënner dësen internationale Spueniekämpfer waren och vill jiddesch Männer. Here we discuss the potential and challenges of humanized mouse models for developing effective and affordable therapies and vaccines, which are desperately needed to combat these diseases. [more ▼] As a follow-up to the CoRobots project presented within the framework of the exhibition Eppur si muove (July 2015-Jan 2016), two research teams in social sciences and in robotics share joint reflections on human-robot interaction. In our presentation, we analyze a case of situated communication between a robot and a visitor of the exhibition and raise the question whether robots and humans can engage in dialogue. Furthermore, we show how the analysis can support the work of roboticians designing social robots. We address these questions by relying on multi-screen video captures of a visitor playing games with a humanoid robot. The current interdisciplinary work is used as a base for further research and development on the interactions between robots and visitors within the context of the Ville de Luxembourg museums. [more ▼] Humor styles have been found to be associated with well-being, however, no study has addressed the distinct well-being associations of combinations of humor styles, that is, humor types, yet. The present study thus aimed at investigating which combinations of humor styles exist and to which extent these humor types are associated with well-being. In an online questionnaire, the Humor Styles Questionnaire (HSQ, Martin et al. J Res Pers 37:48–75, 2003), self-regulatory strategies, self-esteem, and well-being instruments were administered to a German sample. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses replicated the underlying structure of the HSQ. With hierarchical clustering, we found evidence for three humor types (endorsers, humor deniers, and self-enhancers), which differed in group means for self-esteem, self-regulatory strategies, and well-being. Findings provide further evidence for the positive well-being correlates of self-enhancing humor, and distinctly address the positive correlates of aggressive and self-defeating humor being absent. It is discussed that humor styles cannot be conceptualized as beneficial or detrimental per se, but have to be regarded in context. [more ▼] Biological wastewater treatment plants (BWWTPs) based on the activated sludge (AS) pro- cess have dramatically improved worldwide water sanitation despite increased urbanization and industrialization. However, current AS-based operations are considered economically and environmentally unsustainable. In this Perspective, we discuss our current understanding of microbial populations and their metabolic transformations in AS-based BWWTPs in view of developing more sustainable processes in the future. In particular, much has been learned over the course of the past 25 years about specialized microorganisms, which could be more comprehensively leveraged to recover energy and/or nutrients from wastewater streams. To achieve this, we propose a bottom-up design approach, focused around the concept of a “wastewater biorefinery column”, which would rely on the engineering of distinct ecological niches into a BWWTP in order to guarantee the targeted enrichment of specific organismal groups which in turn will allow the harvest of high-value resources from wastewater. This concept could be seen as a possible grand challenge to microbial ecologists and engineers alike at the centenary of the discovery of the AS process.
