Autonomous vehicular technology significantly stresses the issue of safety. Although the use of driverless cars raises considerable expectations of a general improvement in safety, new challenges concerning the safety aspects stem from the changing context. On the one and, the paper addresses regulatory issues raised by the impact of technological changes, particularly standardization problems. On the other hand, the issue of liability questions is investigated as it might cause today’s main legal obstacle for the wide spreading of autonomous cars, especially as autonomous cars might jeopardize the existing approaches to vehicular liability. The aim of this paper is to scrutinize the basic problems in both fields. We provide what, at the current state-of-the-art, appear to be reasonable recommendations from the perspective of technological regulation and law, in order to deal with the main problems that might hamper the development of autonomous transport technology. Ontologies are an essential component of semantic knowledge bases and applications, and nowadays they are used in a plethora of domains. Despite the maturity of ontology languages, support tools and engineering techniques, the testing and validation of ontologies is a field which still lacks consolidated approaches and tools. This paper attempts at partly bridging that gap, taking a first step towards the extension of some traditional software testing techniques to ontologies expressed in a widely-used format. Mutation testing and coverage testing, revisited in the light of the peculiar features of the ontology language and structure, can can assist in designing better test suites to validate them, and overall help in the engineering and refinement of ontologies and software based on them. This paper gives an example of how computer-based problem-solving scenarios can be embedded in a course on sustainability, in order to illustrate the highly versatile way in which such scenarios can be used to structure and evaluate learning on complexity on an individual level, as well as learning in diverse groups. After defining criteria, a computer-based problem-solving scenario has to meet in order to be useful for training competencies associated with confronting complexity, the application of one specific scenario, the Genetics Lab, is empirically evaluated on base of three student cohorts. Results suggest that existing approaches to sustainability education can be substantially complemented by computer-based problemsolving scenarios, offering genuine learning opportunities and deepening and personalizing the comprehension of known phenomena in complex problem-solving. The paper closes by offering lessons learned from the presented approach and gives advice and outlook on future applications of such scenarios in sustainability education. [less ▲]

This editorial is about weaponising the Fallacies, and offering them as active additional components to modern formal logic, thus forming the new evolutionary logic for the 21st Century. Logicians since Aristotle considered the fallacies as wrong arguments which look correct but are not. They classified them into groups, discussed them and left them by the sidelines of logic as failures. Modern society, with the rise of the internet, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube showed the fallacies as most used and most effective in argumentation and debate. If this is the way humans reason and think then we need to develop the logical theory of the the use of the fallacies and legitimise them as a significant component of modern reasoning. This manifesto outlines our approach to the new logic of the 21st century which allows for the systematic use of the fallacies in argumentation and debate as practiced by people in the mass media. Bereits Ende der 1970iger Jahre wurden Wärmepumpen in Kombination mit glykolbasierten großflächigen kombinierten Strahlungs-Umweltwärme-Absorber als Verdampfer entwickelt, welche sich im Vergleich zu zwangskonvektions-basierten Luft-Wärmepumpen nicht nur die Umgebungsenergie, sondern auch die Solar-energie als Energiequelle zu Nutze machen. Aufgrund der nach der Ölkrise fallenden Ölpreise, der meist noch nicht wirtschaftlichen Anlagentechnik und der benötigten großen Absorberflächen konnten sich diese Anlagen nicht durchsetzen. Durch die starke Reduzierung des Heizwärmebedarfs eines Neubaus werden heutzutage deutlich kleinere Absorberflächen in Kombination mit einer Wärmepumpe benötigt, was die Systemkombination aus Wärmepumpe und Absorber aktuell wieder interessant werden lässt. Vor allem die Kombination aus thermi-schem Absorber, basierend auf freier Konvektion und Strahlung, und Photovoltaik (PV) in einem Modul (PVT-Modul) kann aufgrund der Reduzierung des Heizwärmebedarfs von Gebäuden und des verstärkten Betriebs von Wärmepumpen während der solarstrombedingten Niedrigstrompreiszeiten am Tage und dem damit verbunde-nen höheren Strahlungsanteil der Umweltwärme zukünftig eine Alternative zu zwangskonvektions-basierten Luft-Wärmepumpen sein. Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit einem CO2-Wärmepumpensystem, bestehend aus einem neuartigen PVT-Modul, welches einen mikrokanal-basierten Verdampfer einer CO2-Wärmepumpe mit einem PV-Modul vereint (PVT-direkt). Um die Machbarkeit des neuartigen PVT-direkt-Wärmepumpensystems zu demonstrieren, wird im Rah-men eines Forschungsprojekts ein funktionsfähiges PVT-direkt-Modul konstruiert und schließlich als Teil eines CO2-Wärmepumpensystems getestet und modelliert. Die Leistung eines PVT-basierten Wärmepumpensystems ist stark von klimatischen Randbedingungen abhängig. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wird die Entwicklung einer Regelungsstrategie eines PVT-basierten Wärmepumpensys-tems präsentiert, welche die Solarstrahlung, Umgebungstemperatur, Windgeschwindigkeit, Verdampfungstem-peratur und Verdichterleistung berücksichtigt. Zusätzlich werden die reale Antriebsleistung und der optimale Betriebspunkt des Verdichters einschließlich des optimalen Hochdruckes berücksichtigt. Die entwickelte Rege-lungsstrategie der PVT-basierten Wärmepumpe sieht verschiedene Betriebsmodi in Abhängigkeit von dem So-larstrahlungsangebot sowie der Umgebungstemperatur vor. Der Betrieb der Wärmepumpe erfolgt zwischen Deckung des Heizbedarfs in der Heizperiode und möglichst hoher Effizienz in Zeiten hoher Einstrahlungswerte und hoher Umgebungstemperaturen. [less ▲]

In recent years, the possibility of combining photovoltaics (PV) and solar thermal collectors into one solar hybrid module (PVT-module) has been increasingly investigated. PVT-modules produce thermal and electrical energy at the same time. Since the efficiency of a photovoltaic module decreases with increasing temperature, the temperature of the heat transfer media is often limited to about 30 °C and the PVT-module is combined with a heat pump, which increases the temperature on the “warm side”. A common approach is to integrate the PVT-module directly as an evaporator in a heat pump system (PVT-direct). This paper presents a thermal model of a PVT-direct module as the heat source for a R744/CO2 heat pump. Due to the combined effect of flow channel patterns, solar radia-tion, the ambient conditions and possible condensation and frost formation, heat transfer and thermal distribution conditions of the PVT-direct evaporator are inevitably com-plicated to determine. The proposed thermal model of this hybrid solar module that has CO2 direct evaporation in microchannels will be used to simulate the behavior of the module under different climatic operating conditions. Fur-thermore, it will quantify all energy inputs and/or losses as well as their influence on the total energy supplied by the PVT-module. This will be used to investigate the overall CO2-PVT heat pump system performance in prospective simulations. [less ▲]

This paper examines in detail the argumentation features in the domain of sex offender with some applications to the scheme of “Argument from Expert Opinion". We build a model for reasoning schemes, critical questions and expert opinion on the question of “the degree of risk of a sex offender". We discover that in order to properly model expert practice in this area we need to use numerical argumentation as well as the new notion of “Attack as Information Input". The model is generic and we believe is not restricted to the sex offence area of expertise. Our paper also offers a more detailed example for Walton’s argumentation scheme of Expert Opinion as well as a bridge between the argumentation community and the community dealing with sex offenders. We offer an introduction to the student on the subject of determining the degree of risk of sex offenders. We also look at standard international tools for determining the risk of sex offenders and see how the argumentation community can integrate these tools. [less ▲]

Der vorliegende Bericht stellt die Ergebnisse der Zwischenevaluation über die Durchführung und die Wirkung des Programms Erasmus+ in Luxemburg vor. Mit der Durchführung der Evaluation und der Berichterstellung wurde die Jugendforschung der Universität Luxemburg unter Leitung von Prof. Dr. Helmut Willems vom zuständigen Ministerium (Ministère de l'Éducation nationale, de l'Enfance et de la Jeunesse) beauftragt. Der vorliegende Evaluationsbericht ergänzt die im Auftrag der Europäischen Kommission parallel erfolgende externe Evaluierung und rückt die nationale luxemburgische Perspektive in den Fokus. Der Schwerpunkt der Evaluation liegt daher auf den Erfahrungen und Rückmeldungen der relevanten Akteure (Ministerium, Agenturen, Projektverantwortliche, Projektteilnehmer) bezüglich der Implementierung, Durchführung und Auswirkungen des Programms in Luxemburg.
