Commentary :
Popular article about archaeological excavation on Jägala-Joa IV site in Estonia. During the excavations only 6 square meters were excavated, but this small area contained several combustion events from the Mesolithic until recent years. The site was used ~7000 BC by hunter-gatherers for cooking food (meat and nuts) on fire. 8000 years later there were metal producing activities going on and an Iron Age house built and burned at the same location. The site had traces of military activities from the Soviet period and was opened by road reconstructions carried just before excavations.
